Palliative care
【Ideas】
Palliative care uses proactive medical measures and nursing methods to alleviate patients’ physical, psychological and spiritual discomfort and improve the quality of life of both patients and their families.
-
Physical aspect: palliative care uses medication therapy, comfort nursing, rehabilitation, nutrition, other medical care, and health education to relieve symptoms and make patients feel comfortable.
-
Psychological aspects: palliative care uses companionship, talk, and emotional support, including grief counseling, to assist patients and their families in adjusting to the terminal stage of the disease.
-
Spiritual aspect: palliative care provides continuous care and support, respects the beliefs of patients and their families, allows appropriate religious ceremonies and activities, gives prayers and comfort, and makes patients and their families feel spiritually relieved.
-
Social aspect: palliative care assists patients and their families in assessing social resource connections and overcoming life and economic difficulties.
【Objectives】
To alleviate pain, obtain physical and psychological comfort and peace, maintain dignity and a good death, and improve the quality of life.
【Service Objects】
【Team】
Professional team services, including services provided by physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, spiritual care workers, social workers, volunteers, nutritionists, pharmacists, speech therapists, and rehabilitators, provide the care needed by patients, their families, and caregivers.

【Service methods】
Our hospital provides three palliative care service models:
-
Canaan ward (Hospice ward):For terminally-ill patients who have been assessed by a physician for hospitalization, the Ward provides holistic care and resources for caregivers or families.
-
Palliative shared care:During hospitalization, the palliative care team and the attending medical team will provide shared care so that terminally-ill patients who live in non-hospice wards can also obtain the palliative care services they need.
-
Palliative home medical care:Our hospital is a Class A hospice home medical care institution. Hospice physicians, hospice home nurse practitioners, and hospice team members regularly visit homes or institutions to provide appropriate care that meets the needs of patients and their families. In this way, terminally-ill patients and their families can stay at home or in institutions to feel at ease receiving the proper care of the palliative team.
