Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
 |
About the Department |
|
Considering the continued high incidence of oral cancer in Hualien and Taitung, our hospital established the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in May 2009, hoping to provide more professional medical services for patients with oral cancer in Hualien. The physician in charge is Dr. Wen-Hsiang Hsu, who used to serve at Chi Mei Medical Center and St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Chiayi.
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’s treatment items include—in addition to oral cancer resection and postsurgical jawbone reconstruction—the treatment of facial and upper and lower jaw trauma and fractures, impacted wisdom tooth extraction, complicated extraction, odontogenic head and neck infection, osteomyelitis, dental implant, GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration), alveolar bone lift, sinus lift, pre-prosthetic surgery, corrective cosmetic surgery for dysplasia of the upper and lower jaw, temporomandibular joint disease, and salivary gland disease.
Although the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of our hospital has not been established for a long time, all physicians uphold their passion and sense of mission as oral and maxillofacial surgeons and hope to contribute what they have learned to help the patients in Hualien and Taitung. In the near future, it is hoped that the Department will be able to apply for the establishment of an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist Training Institution and strengthen its cooperation with the Department of Oncology so that Mennonite Christian Hospital can become an important center for the treatment of oral cancer in Hualien and Taitung.
