About the Department |
|
1.Medical Services The Department of Family Medicine of Mennonite Christian Hospital provides services, including general outpatient services, medical care, health examinations, and long-term care institutions. In particular, it inherits the missionary spirit of the past, offeringmedical tours in remote areas and mountain villages and cooperating with government policies to manage the Integrated Delivery System (IDS). The Department is also committed to providing more complete preventive health care services to residents in Hualien and cooperates with the hospital’s cancer center to continue promoting cancer screening services. Further, it expands the original scale in the Community Health Department and maintains good quality of care in Health Promoting Hospitals, IDS, chronic disease case management, and community health examinations for adults and seniors. Moreover, the Department is working with the Department of Long-Term Care to extend the scope of its services, integrate home medical care, and include home hospice visit services to provide patients with continuous and holistic care.
2. Teaching Responsibilities The Department of Family Medicine of Mennonite Christian Hospital is the core of the community-based teaching hospital, which provides specialist training in the Department of Family Medicine and post-graduate general medical training (PGY) community medicine courses. In particular, it cooperates closely with the main training hospitals of multiple medical centers and continues to offer teaching training in local community health care institutions to promote community teaching and provide rich community teaching resources and a full range of training content.

Services |
|
1.For patients who cannot decide which department to visit, the Department provides preliminary diagnosis and referral services to various departments: Many diseases do not have a specific manifestation, and different diseases can present similar symptoms. Nevertheless, a family doctor can roughly diagnose 60% to 70% of general diseases based on your past medical history, symptoms, and physical examination. If your disease can only be dealt with by other specialists, a family doctor will find the most appropriate specialist for the patient.
If you do not know which department to visit, orif you have multiple diseases and your condition is complex and covers several departments, the Department of Family Medicine is your best choice!
2.Health Consultation, Physical Health Examination
Our hospital has a health management center, which provides multiple health examinations.Family medicine physicians are responsible for interpreting and following up on the examination reports, including NHI adult health examination, adolescent and child health examination, preventive health disease screening, pre-marital health examination, pre-weight loss health examination, civil servant health examination, student health examination, specially contracted insurance company health examination, migrant worker health examination, and regular follow-ups for occupational diseases.
* Health examination consultation hotline: 03-824-1211, 03-824-1225
3.Chronic Diseases of the Middle-aged and Elderly, Integrated Medicine: As the population ages, individuals may suffer from several chronic diseases at the same timeor several complications of the same disease.Thus, a family physician must integrate diseases to sort out all conditions, administer necessary and appropriate treatment, and avoid sending a patient into several “departments” for disease treatment and repeated administration.
* Reminder: If you are taking other medicines from other hospitals, please bring them together with the medicine bag to the physician for reference. Considering that each hospital has different medicines and brands, please take the medicine bag or box with the medicine name to avoid taking double doses due to repeated administration or taking medicines that are not suitable to be taken together.Furthermore, the physician may better understand other aspects of your condition, which may help diagnose and treatyour disease.
4.General home-based medical careservices and hospice home-based medical care services
The service targets are patients who live at home, have clear medical needs, and cannot easily go out due to disability or specific diseases.Physicians walk into patients’ homes to perform medical visits and prescribe medicines. If the disease requires placing pipelines or stoma care, home nurses will join the physicians for intensive home medical care.When the patients’ illnessesareterminal, the home nurse will hand them over to the hospice home care nurse to perform intensive home visits and medical treatments with the physicians. Social workers or psychologists may also perform home visits if necessary.
* Home Care Service Hotline: 03-824-1223, 03-824-1350
* Hospice Home Care Service Hotline: 03-824-1604
5.Smoking cessation treatment
Smoking cessation treatment assists smokers in quitting smoking and staying away from smoking harm. In particular, smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation treatment are provided during the outpatient period.
* Smoking cessation consultation hotline: 03-824-1431

Patients can be referred to the Diabetes Care Center by the Department’s physicians.A professional medical team will provide patients with complete care, including regular blood tests, nutritional counseling, and home self-care.
